"Hey, look what I just wrote.
He can only quote.
His tribute band's so smart.
It's like he's tracing Picasso and calling it art."

BLASPHEMOUS GUITARS
"It's that sense of adventure and mischief that makes a set by (Cover Me Badd) or any of their countless offshoots so much fun. You never know what's going to happen."
-San Diego Union Tribune

San Diego's favorite everchanging coverband Cover Me Badd is currently doing a set of rocked out Depeche Mode songs as THE BLASPHEMOUS GUITARS. The new act takes the synthesizer driven hits of D-Mode and the mope anthems of the Cure and the Smiths, rocks them out with THREE guitarists, including 2005 San Diego Guitarmaggedon champ Greg Vaughan, and combines them with the most ridiculously unrelated songs ever. Whether you love or hate Depeche Mode, EVERYONE is floored by crazy combinations like "Just Can't Enough GnR", "The Beautiful People Are People" and "Never Let Me Freebird Again". Overly serious bands are twisted up with bits of Whitney Houston and "Walking On Sunshine" like no band has ever done. They've played to thousands of fans at San Diego's House of Blues, Big Night San Diego, Spaceland, The Casbah, The Beauty Bar, Club Rock It and other top venues around southern California. Their Cure covers benefit raised $1800 for the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.

Adam Gimbel started Cover Me Badd as a side project to be more interesting than the average coverband. CMB has been a tongue-in-cheek poetry act, a tribute to boyband pioneers, an Oasis parody (the Fookin' Wankers), an American Idol sendup, an old man Weezer coverband (Geezer) and Rabbi Gimbel's Jews Explosion, a Jewish rock extravaganza. Because of Gimbel's reputation and the band's unique brand of live mashups, The Blasphemous Guitars were featured in the San Diego Union-Tribune and SD CityBeat before they'd even played and booked for San Diego's largest New Year's Eve party sight unseen. Since then, their reputation has spread all over the world thanks to the internet. Because the acts are always done as a goof and all of the involved musicians have other full-time bands, their infrequent shows are always EVENTS. They are not to be missed.

Pics from the Replacement Replacements debut by Patricia:

Liam Gallawanker returned to Beatlefair, one year after the Wankers' set was cut short by the Bootles and Beatlefair staff. He didn't even get inside before he spied the Bootles' mulleted femme bassist, gave her a video of last year's show, thanked her for getting us kicked offstage and offered her several ways she could apologize. She just thanked us for us for the publicity. Like a jerk, he got it on tape but you really had to be there. The day before, Liam spied the Bootles' drummer at Comic-Con dressed in full Trek gear. 'Nuff said.

Liam also recently handed videos of the FOOKIN' WANKERS to members of Blur. They giggled when he told them about their version of "Supersonic" (set to "Song 2") and bassist Alex actually said he'd heard of them. Opening slot at Wembley, here we come!

March's COVER ME AMERICAN IDOL show at The Casbah was a ton of fun. Check out Joe Elwell's picutres. Thanks to everyone that helped: Emily Joyce (Bunky/White Xmas Stripes) as Paula Abdul, The Oliver Project (Jews Explosion) as himself, Dallas (Bad Credit) as interviewer/moderator, Robin McDougall (no group affiliation), Marie Haddad (local singer/SDBO)/Kim Musser (Pure Milk), Nasr Helewa (Rookie Card), Doug Clark (Mad Hatters), Jenn Grinels (local singer/songwriter), David Stampone (Free*Stars) and our winner, Gabe from Red Pony Clock. Gabe won a year's worth of Coca-Cola at the Casbah for his incredible rendition of the Beach Boys' "I Am A Tree" and wowed everyone in the final "Idol" round by doing "Dancing With Myself" with everything he had. Once again, Simon would like to publically apologize for his rubberband gun going off while Dave Stampone was doing his Mariah/Def Lep version of "Bringing On The Heartbreak". The judges got an offer or two to reprise their roles with real-life karaoke folks. We might do it someday....

THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO JEWS EXPLOSION OR
